Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas is looking for a part time School Counseling Consultant for St. Matthews Catholic School in Kansas City, Kansas to successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings while providing direct counseling/consultative services to students, teachers, principals and parents in the elementary and secondary schools of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas on a part time basis. This is a part time 10 hour per week position from September 2017 through May 2018 (9 months)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Individual counseling sessions for students
  • Group sessions with students dealing with common concerns (divorce adjustment, social skills, newcomers, life skills, etc.)
  • Classroom guidance sessions on special topics (conflict resolution, self-esteem, peer relationships, communication, drug and alcohol education, etc.)
  • Consultation with teachers and principals regarding student and/or classroom concerns
  • Family therapy on a limited basis with appropriate referral for ongoing counseling needs to another appropriate resource
  • Personal counseling for teachers upon request
  • Parenting classes upon request
  • In-Service for teachers upon request
  • Monthly individual and group supervision with Director of School Consultation Program
  • Available to serve on the Crisis Response Team if needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good communication skills
  • Experience in working with students, teachers, principals and parents both educationally and therapeutically
  • Ability to speak to groups
  • Willingness to continue professional development and to educate oneself in new techniques in working with children and adolescents
  • Good working relationship with principal of the school

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters Degree in Counseling, School Consoling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or Psychology
  • Experience working with children, adolescents and families

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Submit verification of transcripts, professional licenses and/or certifications
