Job Description Summary

 

Successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings.  The Hospice On-call/PRN Chaplain is responsible for the provision of spiritual care services to patients and families/caregivers of Catholic Community Hospice, either directly or through coordination of care with other spiritual counselors. The bulk of this position concerns the provision of spiritual services at or near the death of hospice patients and will occur during the evening and/or weekends. The On-Call/PRN Chaplain plays a vital role in providing spiritual; and emotional comfort at the end of life.

 

 

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

 

  1. Available to families/caregivers/patients both nights and weekends to cover on-call request for chaplaincy.

 

  1. Provides direct spiritual and emotional support to patients and families/caregivers relating to death and dying/end of life needs.

 

  1. Provides support to other team members as needed to assists with patients and families/caregivers.

 

  1. Maintains accurate and complete documentation of services performed on a case by case basis.

 

  1. Communicates appropriate information to hospice team members involving patients spiritual needs, end of life concerns, patient and caregiver coping/ bereavement needs.

 

  1. Provides funeral or memorial services for patients as requested/when available.

 

  1. Accepts and performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Position Qualifications

 

  1. Graduate of accredited seminary or school of theology (BD, M.Div. or equivalent theological degree).

 

  1. Ordained, commissioned or credentialed by an organized religious group.

 

  1. A minimum of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)

 

  1. Experience working with death and dying, individuals/family/caregiver.

 

  1. Must be willing to live by the agency's Values, where we are called to show Love, Patience, Kindness, Faithfulness, Self- Control and Joy

 

  1. Ability to work as member of interdisciplinary team/group.

 

  1. Comfort in an interfaith setting.

 

  1. Ability to accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.

 

  1. Ability to network with community clergy and congregations.

 

  1. Knowledge of and commitment to hospice philosophy of care.

 

  1. Healthcare setting and Hospice experience preferred.
