Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas is looking for a Manager, Warehouse Operations to successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings, by managing the overall operations of the food warehouse and Hope Distribution Center (HDC), including but not limited to, creation and implementation of a safety program and policies, supervision of food distribution, purchasing and invoicing, cost and quality control, HDC budget, food rescue program, program fleet management, daily and monthly statistics and reports as required. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage overall operation of the warehouse.
  • Manage all aspects of product, receiving, storage, order picking and staging for distribution, including bills of lading, pallet tags, receipts and other documentation.
  • Coordinate with food pantry managers to develop an order, schedule, and delivery process that ensures pantry shelves are stocked at all times.  Serves as the central point-of-contact for all food pantry orders.
  • Design, implement, and maintain a safety program and ensure safety audits are performed regularly.  Develop corrective action plans based on results of audit(s).
  • Recruit, manage, and develop high performing teams of mission-centered staff and volunteers; ensure that all are duly trained in warehouse and safety procedures, policies, and applications associated with their job or volunteer assignment.
  • Ensure warehouse is maintained according to OSHA, Harvester's, USDA, Health Department, America's Second Harvest, Safe Food Handling, and AIB standards, etc.
  • Maintain the plant facility including climate control, grounds, housekeeping and sanitation processes.
  • Purchase food for monthly distribution from food banks, food suppliers, bulk purchasing and other cost saving opportunities.
  • Ensure all food brought into the HDC is recorded (weight, donor/provider, etc.).  Ensure all food shipped/distributed is also recorded.  Produce weekly reports of inventory, food drives, and other related data.
  • Organize volunteer opportunities and ensure proper training on warehouse operations and safety guidelines.
  • Solicit donations from area organizations and businesses.
  • Oversee Food Rescue Program, CYO and school donations.
  • Coordinate scheduling, repair and maintenance of all program related vehicles, forklifts and other equipment used at the HDC.
  • Coordinate food drives, food rescue, HyVee drives and other donation sources.
  • Speak to various groups to educate them about the purpose and role of the food pantries within Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas and in the community.
  • Manage food programs as a good steward of Catholic Charities resources.  Ensure that all administrative processes related to record-keeping, funding and other administrative issues are done to the highest standards.
  • Manage the budget for HDC, by ensuring all income, expenses and relevant business measures are reported, monitored and achieve budget.  Meet monthly with Director, Stabilization Administration to review program budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

  • 2 years supervisory experience in a warehouse environment.
  • 3 years material management and warehousing experience, preferably in a food industry setting,
  • Strong skills in organization and management; prior experience establishing and/or managing systems to track food coming in and going out of the warehouse in order to build a plan for continuous donations to meet the need across the 21 counties served.

  • 5 years warehouse experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with a variety of audiences internally and externally.
  • Solid relationship building skills.
  • Certification to operate a Crown stand-up forklift or ability to obtain this certification, and at least one year experience using a forklift (must be able to produce a copy of this certificate).
  • This position functions mostly in the warehouse environment and/or outdoors.  There will be some office work requiring the use of office equipment including a computer, telephone, calculator, fax, and copy machine.  The position requires extensive walking in the warehouse and back and forth to the office.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must have and/or able to pass DOT certification, in order to back-up drivers at the warehouse.
  • Must have a valid Kansas or Missouri driver's license.  Must provide copy of driver's license and proof of insurance.
