To ensure that the healthy foods, assistance and case management necessary for rural Kansans to break the cycle of poverty get to those in need efficiently, the Rural Resource Expansion VISTA project will create and implement systems for the distribution, organization, outreach and volunteer support necessary to expand services. Duties include developing and teaching health and nutrition classes, recruiting and training volunteers, analyzing and improving systems, and organizing community outreach activities. EEO


By accepting this Internship you will be required to become a member of the AmeriCorps VISTA Program; a stipend for this placement will be made by AmeriCorps and CCNEK.



  • Assist with developing, organizing, and managing volunteer opportunities and donation drives to increase the Reception and Placement program's capacity.
    1. Coordinate volunteer opportunities to help increase support and efficiency of the program.
    2. Develop and teach health and nutrition classes.
    3. Create rural outreach plan and systems for target communities.
  • Assist the Rural Resource team in identifying potential areas for increased efficiency and eliminate redundancies.
  • Assist with identifying and gathering resources that will help the program.
  • Participate in team meetings and trainings.




  • Work together with the Rural Resource Team Leader to develop & implement new volunteer opportunities.
  • Provide training and support to clients, volunteers and donors.
  • Review the provision of core services to help identify and remedy any redundancies or inefficiencies.
  • Help develop systems to help maximize team's time and capacity.
  • Supports the program by promoting the achievement of self-sufficiency for clients.
  • Ensures all contact with clients and record-keeping represent the highest standards.
  • Maintains proper documentation on follow-up to referrals and other services.
  • Abides by all current policies and procedures.

  • Ability to work effectively in an environment that is multi-cultural and multi-lingual.

  • Fluency in English required.
  • Must have competent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Must have competent organizational skills, attention to detail orientation and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Evenings may occasionally be required.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs
  • Must have a valid Missouri or Kansas Driver's License and a verified safe driving record as well as reliable means of transportation for local travel to complete client services. Must provide a copy of license and insurance.
